WHAT WE DO


I. Education

A goal of The Harris House is to promote the value of education and provide experiences that will positively impact individuals in our service areas. We have established the Harris House Scholarship, Voting 101--Voter Education and Registration Program, and Project Pelt thus far.


II. Health Advocacy & Awareness

A goal of The Harris House is to facilitate the process of developing and maintaining healthy lives through promoting and encouraging individual health advocacy and awareness. 


III. Community Awareness

A goal of The Harris House is to serve as an entity to support the identified communities with opportunities to increase pride, advocacy and promote the continuous well-being and growth of those individuals within it.

The Harris House Scholars​hip Fund

The Harris House Scholarship is awarded to two (2) graduating seniors. The funds can be used towards any school-sponsored event, school-related fees/dues only (i.e. senior dues, senior trip dues, SAT/ACT fees, college application fees, Class Ring, Class Pictures, Graduating Invitation Packages, Post high school enrollment fees for apprentice programs, etc.). The scholarships are open to seniors in selected schools in the Bolivar County, MS area.

Voting 101 Program

The Harris House currently provides Voting 101 a Voter Education and Registration Program  in high schools, organizations and businesses in the Charleston area. Individuals are taught about voting, voting rights and the election process . In May, 2017, we began our Voting 101 Voter Education and Registration Program, "Voting 101".  So far, we have impacted over 400 individuals  in the Charleston Tri-County Area . If your school, business,church or organization would like to conduct a program  at your location, please contact us.

Project P.E.L.T.

Project P.E.L.T. (Producing Esteemed Leaders of Tomorrow) is designed to enhance opportunities for students to be successful and prepared for life after high school graduation.Project P.E.L.T is geared towards high school juniors and seniors to help them create and execute a plan to successfully enter into the world by way of being college, career and/or military ready from the moment they walk across their graduation stage.

THH--Saturday Service Projects

The Harris House partners with various community organizations through-out the year to volunteer our time and service in various capacities to contribute to well-being of others in the community.

Supply-A-Classroom 

Our Supply Our Supply-A-Classroom Initiative is designed to help give a deserving educator's classroom a hand in getting the necessary school supplies needed throughout the school year. This  award will be given to (1) teacher/classroom within the Charleston Tri-County Area each school year. 


Why Not Me--Reflective Journal and Goal Setting Program

A program that incorporates goal-setting and reflective journaling tools to help individuals discover or re-discover their plan and purpose in life.


Special Project
Choose Well Focus Groups--In Partnership with East Tennessee State University 

The Choose Well Project is a New Morning Foundation Initiative to host focus groups in the Charleston area that contribute to the reproductive health programs in the State of South Carolina. The Harris House partnered with East Tennessee State University (ETSU)for a special project to ensure the success of this program study in the Charleston Tri-county area.

Special Project
Student College Fair in partnership with North Charleston High School

he Harris House has partnered with North Charleston High School to present a school-wide college fair. Over 20 different colleges, universities and organizations throughout SC and surrounding states were present to speak with students and share information about their schools with them.
